CASEIN PROTEIN REVIEWS |
|
As we briefly touched on the previous page, Casein Protein is a slower release protein than whey protein. This is due to the fact that Casein gels in the acidic environment of the stomach and takes longer to be broken down. It is another rich source of amino acids and is accounts for around 80% of the proteins present in Cow milk and cheese and it is also present in other dairy products such as Cottage Cheese.
This can be an unsuitable source of casein for some however as it is high in Lactose and Sodium, so anyone with Lactose intolerance or high blood pressure for example should not consume a lot of cottage cheese.
Like whey protein, casein protein can assist as part of a weight loss plan. It can provide the same feeling of ‘fullness’, although in a slightly different way. Casein can apply small amounts of pressure to the stomach walls, giving the impression to the body that the stomach is full.
Casein is a great accompanying supplement to whey protein as part of a bodybuilding or weight lifting plan. Due to the fact that Casein is a slower release protein, it provides an excellent protein source overnight, particularly after training. As your glycogen stores are depleted overnight, Casein provides a source of protein and so prevents muscle breakdown overnight. Casein is abundant in Glutamine, approximately one fifth of its makeup and this is one major factor in preventing muscle breakdown.
Below are the Casein Protein Powders available through Whey Protein King. |
